David Lucas, RN, BSN, MA is the Chief Nursing Officer at Abilene Healthcare Hospital. He started his mental health career in 1976 as an Air Force inpatient mental health technician, became increasingly interested in the career field and decided to go to school for his BSN. Through three different military assignments and countless night shifts he graduated from of the University of Texas Healthcare Sciences Center with his BSN in 1986. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1987 and spent the following 10 years honing his craft and graduated from Midwestern State University in 1999 with a MA in Public Management. 2001 was an exciting year and took him to the United Kingdom. He retired from the Air Force as a Major in 2006 and began his civilian career as a Director of Nursing and has been in this position for the following nine years. He is married and has 2 grown children, 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
