Assessments 24/7 > Admission Criteria
Abilene Behavioral Health is dedicated to the provision of psychiatric and chemical dependency treatment services to individuals who meet programmatic criteria and medical necessity.
If the patient meets one or both of the following general criteria, he/she may be admitted for services:
- Because of psychiatric disorder, remaining in a less restrictive, non-specialized setting will result in deterioration in the ability to function independently. This may include the failure of outpatient treatment or medication regimen.
- Because of a psychiatric disorder or chemical dependency problem, the patient presents a danger to self or others through his/her actions (including drug and or alcohol use), and/or statements or intended actions, or withdrawal symptoms.
If admitted: (Acute level of care criteria)
- Behavior which is threatening, destructive, or disabling to self or others, may include: "active" suicidal or homicidal threats, plans or attempts within the last 72 hours.
- Symptoms/behaviors which indicate the need for 24-hour continued monitoring and assessment of a patient's condition, may include the following:
- Vegetative signs/symptoms
- Significant weight loss
- Significant inability to care for self
- Self-mutilation
- Psychiatric depression
- Visual and/or auditory hallucinations
- Disabling delusions
- Debilitating psychomotor agitation
- Acute onset of confusion or memory loss
- Active psychiatric disorder with potential to interfere with treatment of a serious medical condition
- Failure of outpatient or residential treatment evidenced by clinical instability or a physician consult indicates a condition which precludes safe treatment at a lesser level of functioning.
- Condition requires detoxification in a medically monitored setting
