Cocaine Addiction & Abuse Treatment

Cocaine addiction is a complex, debilitating illness that can leave you without a social network, financial security, or the ability to function in day-to-day activities. Many individuals addicted to cocaine fail to seek treatment due to the stigma, the worry of being seen as weak, and fear of negative judgment from others. Despite failed attempts, many people feel they can get sober on their own. Inpatient detox and treatment for cocaine addiction is one of the most effective ways to get and stay sober.

At Abilene we know that cocaine addiction isn’t a life sentence and we see you as a unique individual with strengths and resources. We understand your hesitancy in admitting your cocaine addiction and the many reasons that someone turns to substance abuse. We’re here to help you process your addiction and start on the path that will return you to a normal life.

We know that substance abuse rarely occurs in the absence of co-occurring disorders. At Abilene our skilled professionals are trained not just to treat substance abuse symptoms but the whole person and all that ails them. You don’t have to work through cocaine addiction alone. We are here to help.

Why Should You Consider Treatment at Abilene

Cocaine abuse and addiction treatment is not easy, as these problems involve many aspects of an individual’s life. However, with the proper support and treatment, you can live a life free from cocaine.

Cocaine addiction is a disease of the brain that can alter brain structures including areas involved in pleasure, motivation, learning new information, and remembering even simple things. The longer a substance is abused the more likely that the part of the brain involved in exercising impulse control is affected.

When you come to us, we will work tirelessly to get to know you, what struggles you face, and how you see the world. This assessment will allow us to understand that challenges in your life and how we can best help you. You will work with our compassionate staff to develop a treatment plan that works for you.

Cocaine abuse may begin as a choice but with continued use, the brain is affected in such a way that makes it incredibly difficult to quit without help and support. Abilene’s skilled staff can provide the care you need to leave your cocaine abuse behind and return to a full and satisfying life.

Types of Therapy Used to Treat Cocaine Abuse at Abilene

The best approach for treatment of a substance abuse is a combination of medication management and therapies to overcome the behavioral challenges of addiction. We have a number of specialized treatment options for substance abuse and addiction.

When you come to us, you’ll be carefully assessed to determine your needs. This will include a psychological assessment to determine the presence of co-occurring mental disorders as well as a physical assessment to determine the levels of drugs in your system. We will also determine if you are suffering from health-related concerns. If necessary, we will completely detox you in a safe environment under the supervision of our medical team. We will provide medical management for any health problems you’re experiencing.

Our dual diagnosis program is perfect for many people who are addicted to cocaine and is based on the 12-step model for addiction. We encourage continued participation in A.A. or N.A. as you continue your recovery journey.

Medication may be used when you are actively detoxing from cocaine to reduce the severity of withdrawal symptoms and allow you to focus on your recovery. Some individuals may require longer term medication management to manage any co-occurring disorders.

Individual therapy is used as a time for you to meet with a therapist to discuss your cocaine addiction and the problems it has caused in your life. You will work to identify solutions to your problems as well as learn more effective coping skills. Individual therapy is often a combination of CBT and REBT. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is used to identify, evaluate, and replace maladaptive substance use related beliefs.

Rational emotive behavioral therapy (REBT) focuses upon on eliminating the maladaptive beliefs behind cocaine abuse through developing insight. You will learn to accept your addiction as it is without attributing it to a permanent problem. The goal of REBT is to eradicate rid of the beliefs that lead to cocaine addiction.

Group therapy is an important part of the recovery process at Abilene. Process groups allow you to work through your issues with the support of others who have similar issues. Psychoeducational groups focus upon teaching relevant information such as how substances affects the brain and relapse prevention.

In addition to standard therapy approaches, we offer several experiential programs. These include:

  • Recreational programs
  • Spiritual counseling
  • Art therapy
  • Music therapy
  • Yoga
If you feel that you are in crisis, or are having thoughts about hurting yourself or others, please call 9-1-1 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.

When you are ready for discharge, your treatment team will work with you to determine the most appropriate option for your continued care. We have a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that provide intensive recovery services.

Some individuals may be able to transition directly to our traditional outpatient therapy clinic to work with an outpatient therapist. Our outpatient clinic is a walk-in clinic designed to provide care for the whole community in an effort to increase the health and well-being of everyone we meet.
