The Jason Foundation

A nonprofit organization that is focused on raising awareness regarding youth suicide, The Jason Foundation, Inc. (JFI) was established in 1997. Clark Flatt put this organization together after his son, Jason, committed suicide at the age of 16. Since that day, Flatt has made it his primary objective to stop this epidemic through the provision of resources and priceless information to communities throughout the nation who can identify and help at-risk youth.

Abilene Behavioral Health, which is located in Texas, is the local affiliate of JFI and is where resources and programming information can be obtained by students, parents, teachers, coaches, social service workers, and others in Texas. All materials are free of charge.

In Texas:

  • Suicide is the second leading cause of death for middle and high school age youth (12 – 18).
  • Suicide is the second leading cause of death for college age youth (18 – 22).

The Texas Youth Risk Behavioral Survey reported:

  • Almost 1 out of 6 young people seriously considered suicide in the past twelve months
  • Almost 1 out of 10 young people attempted suicide in the past twelve months

Based out of Hendersonville, Tennessee, The Jason Foundation, Inc. has touched communities throughout the United States.
