Adolescent PHP & IOP Treatment Programs

Abilene Behavioral Health seeks to offer a variety of behavioral health services to our community and our youth.

PHP - Partial Hospitalization Program

We offer an exceptional Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for adolescents between the ages of 5-17. Adolescents who enter into our Partial Hospitalization Program will attend sessions Monday through Friday from 8AM to 5PM.

Our specialized PHP has been created to best serve the needs of our adolescent and teenage patients and is available as a step-up from our outpatient counseling or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), as a step-down option for adolescents discharged from our inpatient hospitalization program, or as an option for adolescents with a qualifying diagnosis to enter directly.

Our PHP program is designed uniquely for adolescents who need help developing positive coping skills to manage the challenges they face in a healthful manner. PHP offers include four group therapy sessions each day that are led by master’s level therapists and weekly meetings with both our house doctor and nurse. While topics vary every day, we touch upon peaceful conflict resolution, substance use and abuse, stress management, play therapy, development of constructive coping skills, anger management, as well as techniques for relaxation. Adolescents often report being helped most by group therapy where they are able to bond with peers over shared challenges. Adolescents in our PHP program also attend school on our campus.

At Abilene Behavioral Health, we aim to restore hope and promote healthy coping skills in our youth.

IOP - Intensive Outpatient Programming

At Abilene Behavioral Health we strive to offer a spectrum of services available to all members of our community. We’re especially dedicated to helping our youth ages 5-17 recover and stabilize from coping with a mental illness or chemical dependency. We’ve designed an Intensive Outpatient Therapy (IOP) to allow our adolescents safe and healthy recovery from substance abuse or mental illness in a structured, but less restrictive environment than our inpatient program.

Many adolescents directly admit into our IOP with a qualifying diagnosis, others step-down from our inpatient adolescent behavioral health center, while still others use IOP as the transition between Partial Hospitalization Programs and discharge to outpatient therapy. While adolescents in IOP do not have weekly meetings with a physician or nurse, we do offer outpatient appointments as they are needed.

Our IOP provides adolescents and teens intensive therapy and educational group therapy sessions to allow for continued healing from their struggles. We’ll work with loved ones in family therapy to work on strained relationships and offer coping suggestions to family members. Group therapy is led by experienced, well-trained therapists and while topics may vary, they often include anger management, positive coping skills, communication skills, relaxation techniques, stress management, and setting boundaries. Many adolescents feel they learn the most while bonding with their peers over shared struggles.

Services are offered Monday through Friday from 8AM to 5PM and are designed to provide your adolescent with the opportunity to continue recovery and practice coping skills in our warm, supportive environment while transitioning home on weekends and in the evenings. We aim to do right by your family.
